CSP practice question: Evaluating training effectiveness
Question of the Day for Saturday, 7 November 2026
CSP · Training
After a new forklift training program, the site has: trainee reaction surveys (very positive), written test scores (average 92 percent), supervisor observations of operating behavior on the floor, and forklift incident and near-miss rates. Leadership asks which evidence best shows the training changed performance. What should the safety professional point to?
Explanation
Using the Kirkpatrick levels, reaction surveys show satisfaction and tests show learning, but neither shows that behavior changed on the job. Observed operating behavior shows transfer, and incident and near-miss trends show results, so together they are the strongest evidence of effectiveness. Counting trained operators measures activity, not effect.
