CSP practice question: Site Remediation
Question of the Day for Saturday, 10 October 2026
CSP · Environmental Management
'Pump-and-treat' is a common groundwater remediation method. How does it work?
Explanation
Pump-and-treat extracts contaminated groundwater to the surface, treats it (for example by air stripping, carbon adsorption, or biological treatment) to remove contaminants, and then discharges or reinjects the cleaned water, also controlling plume migration. It does not bury contaminants deeper, leave the aquifer untreated, or intentionally spread the plume. Extract, treat, and return is the method. (Ref: pump-and-treat.)Practise more questions like this
